Photo Documentary Assignment The images below, document the stages of an apiary inspection as performed by a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Bee Inspector.
I ended up in this area, as I was interested in Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). Taking photos of a bee inspection in progress was great fun. I was wearing full protective clothing for this shoot. I needed to adjust my camera, so I was without gloves and had to shoot through a bee keepers helmet and veil.

I set up my own bee colonies, after shadowing the PA Bee Inspector. We're now breeding from naturally resistant, un-medicated/treated stock. This, hopefully, will produce stronger future bee colonies.
Photography can lead one down new paths of awareness.
